The Appaloosa horse
Appaloosas normally have a mottled coat, white sclera (the bit of the eye close to the cornea) and vertically striped hooves.
The history of this popular horse is not totally recognized. There is evidence that spotted horses were established in many geographical regions in Asia and europe, and archeologists have found cave drawings which are as old as to 18000BC clearly showing spotted horses that may be the origins of the modern appaloosa. It is possible that the spotted skin was by origin a form of camouflage, serving a similar purpose to the zebra's stripes.
The present-day Appaloosa is descended from horses brought to The usa by conquistadors. These were somehow acquired by the Indigenous people known as the 'nez perce', who adeptly engineered them into the extraordinary horses that we so admire nowadays.
This fine horse was first known as the "Palouse horse", even though bit by bit its name was changed into the contemporary interpretation, "Appaloosa".
The mustang
The mustang horse is a popular horse which is acknowledged by many as a living symbol of the romantic and adventurous spirit of the American wild west.
Even though Mustangs are most often called 'wild' horses, the more accurate term is 'feral' horses as almost all free-roaming horses inside America are descended from horses that were by origin domestic animals carried to America by the early settlers.
Mostly, these imported horses were of Spanish or Arab stock, but included all combinations of colours and many breed types.
It is believed that some of these independent and clever horses escaped or were traded by aboriginal americans, and quickly spread all through the whole of the u.s.
