The Appaloosa
Appaloosas frequently have a leopard spotted skin, white sclera (the bit of the eye close to the cornea) and striped hooves.
The background of this popular horse is only partly recognized. There is some evidence that spotted horses were established in very many nation-states in Asia and europe, and we know of cave drawings which have been dated to 18000BC showing mottled horses that might be the origins of the appaloosa we know today. It is possible that the spotted coat was first a type of camouflage, similar to the zebra's stripes.
The present-day Appaloosa descends from horses shipped over to Mexico and the u.s. by spanish conquistadors. These got into the hands of the Nez perce indian tribe, who masterfully bred them into the wonderful horses that we recognize today.
Appaloosas were initially referred to as the "Palouse horse", but gradually its name changed into the modern-day interpretation, "Appaloosa".
The Mustang Horse
The mustang is a very popular horse which is held by many as a living symbol of the influential and pioneer energy of the Wild west.
Although Mustangs are often known as 'wild' horses, the more correct term is 'feral' horses as almost all free-roaming horses inside Mexico and the u.s. are bred from horses that were initially domesticated horses shipped over to America by the conquistadors.
Almost all of these early horses were of Andalusian or Arab stock, although they also included all conceivable colours and many people breed types.
Some of these brave horses went wild or were stolen by aboriginal americans, and swiftly spread throughout the whole of america.
